getting the most out of your engine searches

Starting out lets talk about what Search Engine Optimization is, the definition from Wikipedia I looked up refers to it as "the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine's result". so basically when you search for car repairs in the city of jamestown it will bring up many pages of results and when you are talking about optimization that means that the sites that are visited more often and newest are the ones on the first couple pages of your search result. the more a site is visited the higher on the search results page it will be listed as well. Search Engine Optimization is not just limited to web pages it can vary between many types of searches, searches like video searches, news search, and image searches and many different types of searches as well.

The main goals of Search Engine optimization is to generate traffic to your website, to make your site friendly to search engines, and to bring unique value to your site you want to have advertised and viewed the most. when people search for your products and services you definitely want to appear as the highest in the rankings, not just for the fact that you want them to click through your site, there is big value in being at the top of a search result. when most people search for something they don't just search one time and be done with that they often back out and edit their search parameters and search again so that means if you can continually show up in multiple searches in a row and are also at the top that looks very well for your business or website.

Search Engine optimization can provide your business with credibility just by being at the top of a search engine result page, as someone who who does and has done a lot of online shopping and researching for i know i make a mental not of a page when i see that its consistently in the first page, rather than a website that i found on the 34th page. you may not realize it but you constantly do this it gives you confidence in the site that your visiting when you see it in the top 5 or 10, think back to when you had to use phone books or yellow pages and you needed to find an electrician. would you feel more comfortable calling the electrician on the first page or the tenth, im sure you would be more comfortable calling the first page.

Social Media Takeover

This week I participated in my first live chat on twitter, it was the #SMChat and to be honest I thought it wouldn't be very fun but i was surprised and spent almost a full fifty minutes in the chat room replying and just seeing what others had said about certain topics. I only answered a few questions and then mainly spectated for the rest of the time. I answered the first question which was, what percent of your applications do you use a day?

Also as I watched others in the chat room i dont think i saw anyone who said that they used less than 50% of their applications on a given day, thats a lot of time people (including me) are looking at their phones.
The second question was when the narrator asked what the number of total apps on my phone was and I replied with:

.
After doing this live chat I realized that most of the people on twitter use a lot of the apps on their phones, which would make sense because most of the people in the chat are in the same PR class as I am. But none the less I noticed a common occurrence  of applications that different people kept saying they used daily or at least had on their phones. The main applications that seemed to pop up most were Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. all of these applications also have a messaging section which links them together too.

. I also noticed a lot of people were using texting lingo in their chats and shortening words like "you" to "U" or even misspelling words with out even noticing and then having to go back and send another tweet to fix the mistake.

Biggest Up and Coming MLB Stars

According to Bleacher Report the best emerging second baseman for all of MLB is Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs and I believe that is a true statement, although it is arguable that Jose Altuve has been killing it for several seasons. I believe that Javier is the best up and coming second baseman in MLB he has shown a lot of maturity and poise in his 2nd year. He was a key piece to the Chicago cubs play this year and definitely helped them become World Series champions. His contributions on offense seemed to be minor but his offense seemed to come at the perfect times, providing huge momentum swings and large amounts of uplifting energy. Although he was a contributor on offense where he really shines in his defensive ability is off the charts for a 2nd year player. with a large athletic frame and quick hands helped him make amazing plays just when they needed him and also make the routine plays look effortless. In his sophomore season in the MLB Baez was the glue guy that held the team together by hitting:

  • 14 homeruns
  • Stealing 12 bases
  • .273 Hitting Average
Now that spring training has begun and baseball is back we get to see if Baez can to continue to rise in stock and hopefully stay on the path to becoming an all star second baseman/ HOF. I know those are bold claims but he plays with a chip on his shoulder and watching him play is just an exciting time because you never know when a highlight play or a game winning home run, he always has you on the edge of your seat hoping for more.

Twitter Blitz

after doing this assignment i learned a few things that I haven't learned about the University of Jamestown in my short time being here. Things that don't just pertain to jamestown but around the world now days, most of the people in the world today get their news from twitter or social media websites mainly because it is almost instant. and most millennials now days don't watch the news because many don't trust it. along with the things happening around the world I learned that jamestown has beautiful scenery and many good people who genuinely care about this town and I can say i'm proud to be a Jimmie.

Iphone research

after doing some research for the new iphone 7 i found a few websites that had good information for instance on the website that i first visited talks about the Apple Iphone 7. As said in the article one of the more valued features of the new iphone is the camera update, the new camera has 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom and a brand new LED flash on the phone that promises up to 50% better illumination. Some other cool features that the phone is said to have is stereo speakers that is supposably 2x louder than the iphone 6, as well as the speakers the new iphone 7 is also water proof up to 1 meter of depth for 30 minutes without damage. having a phone that is waterproof is a huge improvement from not even being water resistant, now if you spill water or drop it in a puddle you wont damage your phone, other than the dropping it of course. I personally trust the information that is displayed on this website because it seems like more of an informative page rather than a page that tries to market its product, like in the book when Meerman Scott says one of the old ways of marketing is to "interrupt people to get them to pay attention to a message" and on this site there was no pop-ups or messages that seemed to take the focus away from the main message which was the Iphone 7. Unlike the page about the Review on the IPhone 7 where there is a small little blurb about the review of the iphone 7 but then there is a large seciton on give aways and possible free gifts for doing a survey.
I also decided to check out the reviews on apples rival(android) newest cellphone product and see how it compares and the websites compared. Similar to the iphone 7 android made their new phone, the Samsung Galaxy s7 edge water resistant as well. the edge also is dust resistant and has changeable batteries for a cheap price, along with the batter and water resistance the phone has widened its screen and built a more solid phone for longer usage and better looking. In the article about the Samsung Galaxy s7 edge they also talk about how samsung is continuing to improve the quality of the camera as that has become a big issue with more cell phone users, since not to many cary around a separate camera with them it is becoming more important for our phones to produce better quality pictures for the users.

Gobbledygook, good or bad

When it comes to publicity and marketing products to your buyers i agree 100% with the author when he says marketers are using words such as industry standard or cutting-edge because they don't know who they are selling to, they don't know their consumers or know how their product can actually help the consumers. Sure they know that if you use over used phrases and fancy words like "scalable","cutting-edge", or "groundbreaking" that the consumer may seem more interested at first and it could catch their attention but eventually consumers will catch on after sitting in front of a television set as most americans do now days. If you think about it, you sit down and watch television for maybe  hours one day. Within the two hours you may see 20 or 30 min of commercials and over half of them are using the same language as used above. As a consumer would you really want a product that is described as "cutting-edge" when you saw many other products labeled the same? Or would you want that one or two products who's marketing strategy give you an in depth example of how the product works or what they can do for you, sure others may be the "first of its kind" or "groundbreaking" but seeing a company that truly wants you to know how to use the product or what the product is about is something that is rare now a days.

I couldn't agree more when the author says that "Your marketing and PR is meant to be the beginning of a relationship with your buyers(and Journalists). Nothing makes you question buying a product more than not knowing the intentions of a company or even if they don't know what YOU need can lead to distrust and not using/purchasing their product or service. When you are thinking of your buyers first in your product description/ marketing strategy, your customers will unconsciously know because it somehow resonates to them and what they really want to know. On the other hand when you try to market your product first you end up using phrases like used in the first paragraph such as: cutting-edge or industry standard and without knowing it the consumers notice this and may have a negative first impression and possibly not use or buy your product/service. I'm sure if the PR people from Disney wanted to just boast about their amazing entertainment that they can provide, they easily could have. They have debatably the most entertaining service in the nation and it is because they don't care about bragging about their service, they want to let the consumer know that what they have to offer is perfect for them and what the amazing service can do for them. This is why I personally think Disney is one of the greatest in the entertainment business, they put the customer before the product in everything they do.
